Spasmokid
📌 COMPOSITION
- Each 1 ml oral drops contains: Hyoscyamine sulfate 0.125 mg.
- Each 5 ml syrup contains: Hyoscyamine sulfate 0.125 mg.
📌 DESCRIPTION
Spasmokid (Hyoscyamine sulfate) is an anticholinergic, antispasmodic alkaloid. It inhibits gastrointestinal propulsive motility, decreases gastric acid secretion, and controls excessive pharyngeal, tracheal and bronchial secretions. Hyoscyamine sulfate specifically inhibits the action of acetylcholine on structures innervated by postganglionic cholinergic nerves and on smooth muscle that responds to acetylcholine but lacks cholinergic innervation. Hyoscyamine sulfate is absorbed completely by oral administration and distributed throughout the entire body, with a half‑life of 2-3.5 hours. The majority of it is excreted unchanged in the urine within 12 hours.
📌 INDICATIONS
- Infant and children's colic.
- To control gastric secretion, visceral spasm and hypermotility in cases associated with abdominal cramps.
- As adjunctive therapy in the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome and functional intestinal disorders, to reduce symptoms such as those seen in mild dysenteries and diverticulitis.
- It can be used in the therapy of poisoning by anticholinesterase agents.
